3D Car Accident Animation
There are many interesting points to note about this 3D car accident re-creation animation. The environment was produced via satellite imagery capture from Google earth. Black and white schematics produced at the time of the accident were then overlaid to plot out such things as impact and final resting positions. The combined techniques produce a highly detailed and accurate simulation of the environment. Additional assets such as trees and time of day effects produce an added layer of realism and believability.
The vehicles used represented exact make and model years and a specialty suite of tools was used to create the virtual vehicles physical mechanics. The vehicles were actually driven in the virtual world via a real steering wheel and foot pedal up until the initial impact which was then hand animated.
By doing this, the visual impact was heightened creating a realistic re-enactment.
One of the strongest aspects of this piece was the ability to show every vantage point of the accident.
